Construction of six kilometers irrigation Canal project costing 30 million AFN begun in Takhar province

The foundation stone of 6 km agricultural irrigation canal worth 30 million Afghanis was laid by the Regional Programs Coordination Office of Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development during a ceremony attended by Baryali Hilali, Head of the mentioned Program, in Shingan village located in Farkhar district of Takhar province.
During the implementation of this project, 14 .877 working days have been created and after its completion, 17500 local residents will be benefited.
It is worth mentioning that the mentioned canal is one of the main projects in the irrigation and water management sector of the country. That by its implementation, 1335 hectares of Shingan Bala, Shingan Pa'in, Naqla and Kandeh cattle villages will be covered with regular irrigation.
Across the mentioned canal, concrete converters, water control gates, protective walls, gutters, passages, stoning of vulnerable parts and other required buildings will be also constructed that by its completion water loss will be prevented during irrigating agricultural land.
The project is funded by the German Development Bank (KFW) And the German Office of Infrastructure Economic Development for Afghanistan the (EIDA). Its implementation will not only create employment opportunities for the people, but will also increase the production of agricultural products, especially wheat, in this province, and thus provide the basis for the economic growth of the local people.
It is worth to be mentioned that, Infrastructure projects funded by the German Development Bank will be implemented through the Regional Programs Coordination Office of Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) in consultation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock in the four Northern provinces.
