Geological Engineer - (Re announced)

About Ru-WatSIP/MRRD:

Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Irrigation Programme (Ru-WatSIP) is working in the structure of Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development MRRD as one of the national program. The main responsibility of this Program is provision of safe potable water and sanitation facilities as a basic need for allover rural inhabitants in the country.

In this programme donors such as UNICEF, MoF and SAARC are providing financial assistance to MRRD for capacity building and implementation of water supply projects.

Recently Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development/ Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Irrigation Programme, through MOF funding launched National large scale project as construction of Qadis Khordak Water storage Dam for the purpose of water resources management, flood control, land irrigation and environment protection in Qadis district of Badghis province. The implementation will be carried out by construction company (CC) where the daily supervision and regular monitoring is being done by Ru-WatSIP/RRD technical Team.

To ensure that the projects are implemented with quality and planed objectives as per the project document, there is need for hiring a Geological Engineer

Job Description:

Duties and Responsibilities:

Oversees of geotechnical sampling and test procedure of all kind being executed by the contractors on site and labs
Oversees of geotechnical site investigations and tests of all kind being executed by the contractor.
Oversees of geotechnical laboratory tests of all kind.
Understanding and suggesting the best suited consultation about geotechnical issues while construction.
Understanding of geotechnical parts in the feasibility study phases of the project.
Understanding of geotechnical issues during detail design phase of the project.
Understanding of geotechnical issues of the technical specification of the project.
Check and oversees of concrete, mortar, asphalt and etc. while execution.
Oversees of the geotechnical test result of all kind materials used in earthen dam (core. shell. filter and slope protection. Materials).according relevant standards.(ACI,ASTM &USBR)
Check and oversees the geotechnical design.
Check and oversees of all type of construction material with tests and Ensure procured standards..
Understanding and reviewing of geotechnical reports, geotechnical parts of the TOR for execution of work.
Preparation of geotechnical reports.
Perform any other duties and responsibilities that may be given by supervisor.
Assist in assuring that work is done on schedule and to quality standards.
Assist in coordinating technical staff training for the current MRRD Irrigation system project
Provide other technical advice and duties as requested.
Preparation of the monthly activity reports.
Performs any other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by supervisors

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications, Experience & Skills according to (NTA):

The candidate shall have at least BSc degree in Civil or geological. Engineering with 5 years of experience in the related field or MSc degree in the related field
In-depth knowledge in ASTM, ACI, AASHTO, USBR and USACE codes and standards.
Be capable of sampling, testing, tests result interpretation of construction material and mix designs.
In-depth knowledge in SPT tests, tests and Lunge tests
Knowledge and using of Praxis software is preferable.
Speaking fluently in native languages and English.  

Reporting line:

The Geological Engineer will report to Project Manager
