The main objective of the NRVA
2005 was to collect information to better understand the livelihoods of both males and females in Afghanistan
from rural, urban and migratory populations. Questions were asked about many
aspects including food & non-food consumption, income profiles, health, education, water,
markets, transport, agriculture and livestock, land and house tenure,
migration, income generation, assets, risks and shocks.
Enumeration of the survey took
place between June and August 2005. Public data release is expected in March
2005. be data, once it is publicly available will also be mounted on
an interactive database platform available through the Central Statistics
Office web site- www.cso.gov.af. For

The explanation of the sampling frame and the
primary sampling units are available from the links below, along with the
English and Dari questionnaires.
We used optical character recognition
forms to allow scanning of the questionnaires and optical character
recognition for data entry using the Teleform software, hence the Dari
questionnaires are presented in the Teleform format used in the field for
enumeration.
