(NSP)

• Over 21,339 Community Development Councils (CDCs) have been established throughout all 34 provinces.

• More than 20,834 CDCs have formulated Community Development Plans which define the project(s) the communities have chosen to implement. 

• More than 38,911 NSP project proposals have been approved since its inception.  

• Over 20,975 community projects have been completed and now improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of Afghans. The top five community needs are water supply and sanitation, transport, irrigation, power and education.

• As of 24 July 2008, a total of US$ 502340,156 million of block grants has been committed, of which US$ 482,477,903 million has been disbursed to 17,857 communities for their projects.

National Area
Based
Development Programme
(NABDP)

• 302 District Development Assemblies (DDAs) have been established in 33 provinces, each one of which has formulated a District Development Plan (DDP).

• 101 District Development Plans for Laghman, Panjsher, Kandahar, Balkh, Farah, Nooristan,  Bamian, Uruzgan, Faryab and Hilmand Provinces are available on our website: www.mrrd.gov.af/nabdp

• A total of 37 projects in Badakhshan, Sarepul, Nooristan and Paktika are under technical survey through CNTF.

• Five CNTF projects, namely two bridge projects at Bangi and Darqad in Takahr, one reservoir and one water supply project in Balkh, and one protection wall project in Samangan are ongoing.

• ERDA engineers visited Baharak, Zebak, Ishkasem, Wakhan and Khash Districts of Badakhshan Province to identify potential hydropower sites.

• The Institutional Development Unit conducted PCM overview workshops for Northeastern Region PRRDs (Badakhshan, Takhar, Kundoz and Baghlan)

• The Institutional Development Unit, along with MRRD HR Department, is currently reviewing the ToRs and job descriptions for all MRRD employees.

• The Economic Regeneration Unit evaluates 17 proposals for SME implementation support in Balkh, Bamian and Hirat received from thirteen organizations.

• Roodat shawl Making Factory project requested by the DDA of Rodaat District of Nangarhar Province was technically and economically evaluated. The final report was drafted and a presentation prepared.

Microfinance Investment Support Facility for Afghanistan
(MISFA)

• Over 360,000 clients in 23 provinces.

• 70% of clients are woman.

• Nearly US$354 million in cumulative loans have been disbursed.

• 15 Micro Finance Institutions with 244 branches in 106 districts.

• Average repayment rate of 95%

Rural Water Supply and Sanitation
(WatSan)

• Over 11371 water points

• Over 859 hand pumps

• 59 pipe schemes for water network

• 2,578 water reservoirs

• Hygiene education provided to almost  10 million people
